The Trout Ponds seem to reflect the mood of the whole valley near town, the sumac in shadow was what caught my eye and the soft pink sky of a warm autumn afternoon.

I cleared the palette in the dark around 8 pm, and walked out from the field with a star lit warm autumn sky. The best time of day ever!

I think of England when I’m here or some European manicured formal garden. Volunteers maintain this little splendid early morning quiet, and I am appreciative that this is so close to home.

If I had turned the corner I would have met the sun. The rim light on the contour of the hill seemed neon and I painted that the very first thing before the sun rose to light the early morning road.
